Doctor of Sacred Music by Publication
Degree Requirements
The Degree of Doctor of Sacred Music (D.S.M.) by Publication is awarded by the University. It is based upon a full assessment of a candidate's prior published work evidencing a detailed corpus of scholarly contributions in the field of Sacred Music. It may be classified as a peer reviewed doctoral degree. Candidacy for the doctoral degree is available to (a) JHPCU faculty; (b) graduates of JHPCU; (c) faculty and master's level graduates of approved Affiliated Institutions; (d) exceptionally, to externals granted JHPCU master's status. A period of 4 years, at least, must have lapsed between graduation at the master's level and an application for candidacy. If the portfolio detailing the submitted corpus of works fails to satisfy the examiners, the candidate may be awarded an M.S.M. degree.
1. Formal permission to apply for candidate status;
2. Registration at 0 credit hours;
3. Submission of a substantial portfolio integrating the nature of the sustained contribution to learning made by the candidate;
4. Publications and other papers supporting the representations made in the portfolio submission;
5. Peer reviewed assessment;
6. Oral presentation and defence of the significance of the contribution made to learning.
