Biography
Dr Eugene Seow is a Singapore-based music educator, composer-arranger, and multi-instrumentalist whose work centres on rhythm pedagogy, ensemble fluency, and curriculum innovation. He holds a Doctor of Music Education (Liberty University, High Distinction) and a Doctor of Music in Contemporary Performance (European-American University) and serves as Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Music at JHPCU. He lectures in contemporary performance and pedagogy at LASALLE College of the Arts and Singapore Raffles Music College, supervises BA dissertations and MMus capstones, and examines for international boards including SCSM and ASMC.
Seow’s portfolio spans practice-led research, teaching, and performance. He is the only known musician to hold performance fellowships across the three core rhythm-section instruments: percussion (F.Perf.ASMC), electric bass (FNCM), and contemporary piano accompaniment (FTCSM). Forthcoming publications include: Decolonising the Rhythm Curriculum: Integrating Global Groove Practices in Undergraduate Aural Skills (Music Education Research, 2025); The Intentional Pocket Project: A Jazz-Informed Workshop Series for Emerging Ensemble Musicians (Jazz Education in Research and Practice, 2026); and Creative Health Through Music Pedagogy: Case Studies in Identity, Listening, and Cultural Belonging in Higher Education (International Journal of Arts Education, 2025).
He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA), Community Leader (Singapore Chapter). Dr Seow also serves as Southeast Asia Representative and Fellow of the Guild of Musicians and Singers (FGMS). His broader research interests include decolonising aural skills and embedding creative-health frameworks into higher education music curricula.
