Bachelor of Music/Arts in Sacred Music (by Advanced Placement)

Degree Requirements

Candidates for entry are required to hold a licentiate level diploma or equivalent from a recognized awarding body. The University is open to considering awards previously not recognized, please contact admissions in all cases. Where candidates do not hold the required diploma but have equivalent experience in related fields alternative provision for entry is available by negotiation.

The Bachelor of Music/Arts degree (BMus/BA)in Sacred Music is only available by advanced placement as a top-up program to recognized licentiate level diploma awards or equivalents. The University maintains a list of approved qualifications that maybe used as the basis of the degree. The BMus/BA degree is only awarded as an unclassified pass degree. Suitably approved candidates are exempted from 90 of the 120 credits required to obtain a bachelor's degree. The course of study is of 30 credits duration. The standard of study and work required is that of a final year undergraduate. Should a candidate fail to meet the required satisfactory standard for the award of the BMus/BA after resubmission, it is likely that the candidate will be awarded a Diploma in Sacred Music (DipSMus) as the terminal award. Students are required to undertake a selection of classes that develop complementary skills to those of their diploma qualification. A range of electives are available and students will be guided to the specific elements required before undertaking a final capstone project in their chosen field. For performers, composers and theory candidates this will result in a BMus award, musicologists receive the BA.
